The Student

You say that you are a student,
And you hold your head up high.
And you flash your blue and white colors.
  Here at Windber High.
You roam the halls at noon time,
With nothing at all to do
But when the teacher says,
  "Here's your grade",
  You sure look terribly blue.
You try to skip your English Class,
By loafing around in the halls,
And you think you are ready for boy friends
But really, it should be dolls.
You never do your homework,
  because you have a date,
Your mother says, "What about night
  work?
The reply is, "That can wait."
Of course there is the real student,
  With ideals high and clean,
Who tries to get his work in school, and is
  never, never mean.
Now classify yourself, my friend,
  And be concerned and aware-
Of what is means to be a student,
  It's something very, very rare.

Origin Of Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine was the name given to several saints and martyrs of the Christian Church, of Whom the most celebrated are two martyrs whose festivals fall on February 14.
One was a priest at Rome, the other a bishop in Umbrea. The most reliable accounts seem to show that both died in the third century and on the same day.
The traditional anniversary of their death, February 14, has become known as Valentine's Day, and has long been observed as a Lover's feast. This has no connection with the saints, but the association of the lovers festival with St. Valentine's Day seems to have arisen from the fact that the feast of the two saints falls toward spring and is purely accidental.
Both Chaucer and Shakespeare refer to the observance of the festival as the day in early spring when birds first choose their mates.
The custom long prevailed on the day of drawing lots to decide Which young men and young women :should be each other's "valentine" during the coming year. The couples thus drawn exchanged gifts, and in some cases might even be regarded as betrothed. Later the custom of making presents on St. Valentine's Day was confined to the men. It has fallen into disuse in Great Britain, but the sending of flowers and candy in America on February 14, is still common.

A Dog's Life

Every now and then a few stray cats and dogs decide that they may get more attention in the high school than they do on the street. For some time now there has been a little black terrier roaming around the halls. His favorite "hangout" is outside Mr. Cassler's office.
Every to often "Rambie", named for the W. H. S. Ramblers, decides to attend class. His favorite class seems to be Mixed Chorus.
He is black with two brown spots above his eyes. No one knows how long he plans to stay, but even the teachers seem to think that he is an asset to the j building.
Oh! by the way, we think "Rarnbie" is a soprano since that is where he "parks" himself when he visits the Mixed Chorus.
When asked of his impression of W. H. S. he answered "Ruff-Ruff" which in "real catty" dog language means “it's real gone”.
